Katie Tharp is a former advanced young rider having competed in the NAJYRC and represented the United States in the small tour at the CDI*** Sydney (Australia). She acquired both her Bronze and Silver USDF Medals within two competition years and is currently participating in the USDF L Program. She has ridden with and worked for some of the top dressage athletes in the world. Katie believes that dressage is simple, if explained simply.

Katie has had the opportunity to work and study with many national and world class trainers including, but not limited to:

Steffen Peters

In 2005, Katie spent months as a work student to the top U.S. Olympic rider in Rancho Santa Fe, California.  She trained intensely with Mr. Peters on her own Dutch Warmblood gelding Indiana and had the amazing opportunity to ride and work with Steffen's then top mounts including Floriano (2004 Athens Olympics Alternate, 2006 World Equestrian Games Bronze Medal), Lombardi II , and Marlando.

Conrad Schumacher

During her time as an advanced young rider, Katie was chosen on two separate occasions to participate in the USDF Advanced Young Rider Clinic Series then given by Conrad Schumacher.  Since then, she has practiced his training methods (the German method of dressage training) with great success.  Katie works with Mr. Schumacher three times a year in Houston, TX thanks to the Houston Dressage Society and The Dressage Foundation.

Volker Brommann

Katie began riding in regular clinics with Volker Brommann after leaving Steffen Peters' barn in 2005.  During that time, he had her teach during some of his clinics in Texas and helped her to further her own teaching methods. Volker is a licensed Bereiter and Reitlehrer through the German Equestrian Federation and trained under Walter Christensen.  He is also a USDF FEI B Certified Instructor.

Lynda Alicki

After graduating High School, Katie moved to Wellington, FL to continue training for the next year of the NAYRC as a work student to Lynda Alicki (1999 Pan American Team member - Winnipeg). She spent her time working, riding, and competing at the Palm Beach CDI's with some tough competition ultimately becoming the top qualifier for the Region 9 team (2003) aboard Bandalero.

Heather Blitz

Katie worked as work student/assistant to Heather Blitz (2011 Pan American Games Team Gold, Individual Silver Medalist and US Olympic Team Reserve for London 2012) at Oak Hill Ranch in Folsom, LA.
